Well I was not keeping bees a 100 years ago so can not comment back then but
I was involved in commercial beekeeping from the fifties on and until mites
foulbrood was the only problem we ever had.
I have seen nosema cerana issues in some hives but for the most part I have
now the best bees in years.
My broker is looking for 5 semi loads of bees for almonds which I can't
cover. If interested list email me off list. Those California beeks just
can't seem to keep their bees alive! SHB infested hives not a problem.
From my contacts it seems the bee problems are confined to California beeks
and Dakota beeks. Texas & Florida beeks seem unaffected but perhaps those
attending the ABF or AHPA conventions will comment on what they are hearing.
