Ketoconazole is a potent inhibitor of the cytochrome P450 3A4
enzyme<http://www.rxlist.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=3266>system.
This might mean that if the Chinese are using it concurrently with
fluvalinate or coumaphos, that they might see increased bee toxicity from
these miticides! I'm curious as to whether it is contaminating Chinese
honey.
This compound is a common dandruff (a symptom of a fungal infection)
medication, but I can't find any specific data on it against microsporidians
(nosema, etc).
However, there are a number of other drugs of interest that specifically
target microsporidians. Recent sequencing of the N ceranae genome (in prep)
may indicate specific weaknesses of the parasite.
