I'll give you a "third-hand" answer...for what it's worth.
Last year one of our guys in the bee club ordered 50 queen cells. They arrived just fine, but four of them were already hatching. He was told by the shipper that they are scheduled to hatch on the day they arrive...or very shortly there after. The hatched queens were seperated with "roller cages" and placed in mating nucs. The remaining cells were moved to splits.
All of them did real well, in his mind. He was very pleased and will be ordering a couple hundred this summer.
