When I first saw CCD colonies in Florida, I noted that colonies in good
shape had:
1) bees and brood, with the amount of brood in balance with the number of
bees, and pollen patties that moved (when I flipped them over, the Small
Hive Beetles were so numerous, they actually caused the patty to shake.
The failing and collapsed colonies had patties without SHB - no movement,
no beetles.
