Although not a guru in any sense, I have experienced fast heavy flows from
Canola here in Alberta. I put on five or six medium supers before the flow
starts. The bees tidy them up and get them ready to use immediately. The
more cells they can use to ripen the honey the more they can gather.
I use excluders and can extract the full ones and put them back out. There
does not seem much advantage to bottom supering. If you can leave the supers
in a dehumidified hot room, you can take them off before they are fully
capped.
We often get 200 to 300 lbs per hive coming in during the Canola bloom which
normally lasts about a month.
