Bob, I am deliberately hesitant to comment upon any specific
producer's queens, for obvious reason.
But yes, I find Terry Brown to be open to honest evaluation, and to be
making a real effort to breed better bees.
I have not found chalkbrood in those colonies headed by his queens. I
am very impressed by the productivity of the colonies. He also warned
me that I would not be working his bees in shorts, sandals, and
T-shirt as I often do with my bees. He was right.
Yesterday I spent the day equalizing 72 colonies (singles) headed by
Kona Queens--I never needed to put on a veil, and did work in the
attire (or lack thereof) mentioned above.
I do find that I generally put on a veil in my purebred Russian test yard.
