After recently posting on the topic, I took a bunch of frames on a cold morning and run a hive over and parallel to the mid rib. I was pleasantly surprised how cleanly the cells broke off. Very little little residue left on the embossing although the bees had built up more solid wax 'foundation' under the drone cell areas. These were harder to scrape.
Have decided to forego the power washing.
