I think premixed is in the thirties this year. I purchased pallets of fifty
pounds bags and mixed myself this year and was under premixed prices by
quite a bit. Not sure why,
You can place the bags in a 55 gallon drum and turn the heat up on the water
heater to around 170F and the sugar dissolves easily. I bring the pallet of
bags over by a line of empty drums and slit the bag with a box cutter and
let the sugar run into the barrel. I never lift a bag.
On some water heaters you need to remove the cover and turn the knob as far
as the knob will go to reach the 170 F. temperature. I have cut way back on
feeding due to costs mainly. I fed heavily during the two drought years but
now with normal years my feeding costs have dropped .
