Montana has a very specific apiary registration law that is periodically
reviewed and updated, and it is enforced. Basically, it sets a 3 mile limit
(space between bee yards owned by different beekeepers). Registration is
mandatory, there is a fee, and each site has to meet the registration guidelines as
per distance to nearest neighbor, with some flexibility for landowners and
hobby beekeepers.
All sites have to be renewed each year, and each site has to be reported as
to its geographical location (GPS preferred).
