No, the point is to make it Roundup-resistant. Canola (rape) is
already about 70% self-pollinating. But it is still a major nectar
source for bees where it is grown, and GM canola can and has already
outcrossed to non-GM canola, making volunteer (weed) canola more
difficult to manage, not to mention giving Monsanto a reason to sue
farmers who were unlucky enough to have their non-GM crop cross -
pollinate with nearby GM canola.
