Truly wild conjecture. The problem is too widespread for this scenario.
It sounds a bit like Bee Paralysis virus to me. I saw four or five colonies
like this, this fall. Dead and dying bees on the landing board and on the
ground. Many still twitching and with their tongues out. Looks a bit like
poisoning, but surely it was the wrong time of the year for spraying here
in the north, and the apiaries effected were widely separated...located in
two states.
