I have skunks in most of my yards. Have used the same solution for 25 years
with great results. Simply sprinkle about a teaspoon or less of lye
crystals in the skunk-scratched soil in front of the hives. The crystals
will absorb water and dissolve into the soil. Makes the soil taste bad.
Skunks will stop immediately. If they move to another hive, treat that one,
then they will give up entirely. Apparently doesn't hurt the skunks. I
like to coexist with wildlife--even skunks and bears!
In really bad skunk yards, I just walk down the front of all hives at move
in and sprinkle lye. Occasionally is necessary to retreat after a rain.
Used to find Red Devil lye at any grocery, but now must find lye crystals in
the plumbing section of a hardware store.
