I have had some success making bees abscond from a tree by smoking them
heavily with Honey Robber soaked newspaper in the top of the smoker. It
took a couple hours, but the bees did settle on a nearby tree just like a
swarm (minus those I had vacuumed). They had however only been in the tree
for a few days. I've had less luck with those that have well established
hives or those swarms in much larger cavities.
