I think that it was Brenda Ball who first suggested the link with viruses
and we have therefore known for some time that if there is virus present
then higher levels of varroa will cause more virus to be injected and
therefore more bees will die; I would suggest that would be a fairly obvious
assumption once you know about the link between varroa and virus.
