Here in the UK Midlands we usually see drones being evicted from queenright
colonies in early August (often late July) but this year there was no sign
of any being evicted a week ago when I left for Apimondia. On Friday I
visited Micheal Mac Giolla Coda of the Galtee Bee Breeders and there were
large numbers of drones in his hives. The season in the UK is very late
this year and I am assuming (hoping!) that this is the reason for the
retention of drones - and not that we have large numbers of failing queens!
