Hi Mike,
You ask about controlling chalkbrood and preventing its spread. In a
word requeening with hygenic stocks and sanitation. Hygenic behavior
results in a high degree of resistance to both chalkbrood and american
foulbrood. To prevent spread basic sanitation really can help. Mainly
thinking in terms of not spreading infection by moving combs from
infected to uninfected colonies and never never trapping pollen for
feeding bees from colonies with any chalkbrood. Some combs from
colonies with very heavy infections are best replaced but changing to a
hygenic stock will often take care of the problem by itself pretty
quickly. Just the same old basic good beekeeping practices.

Hope this helps.
