I have been using 5-frame nucs to draw foundation. By staking the boxes
with foundation (plastic or wax) over strong 5 frame nucs and with heavy
feeding you will be amazed how quickly the frames are drawn.Multiple nucs,
rotation of the frames and continueal feeding will generate quanities of
newly drawn frames for replacement, new hives, or additional nucs. I use
top feeders that are kept full at all times.
I believe that the confined space is just right for the bees to work upward
in an attempt to expand their nest.
