Michael,
Upon reflection, I think I would get this incident on record. The way
to do that is to write a formal complaint, listing time, date, details of
the incident, inspector's name, and if possible include a copy of the
inspection sticker. When things are written down and sent in they become a
matter of record. Upon further reflection, I would also send the letter
"Return Receipt Requested" along with a request for a reply to the letter.
Hope things get corrected okay.
