We use excluders on the hives throughout the year. Comparative tests here and in Israel have shown quite conclusively that a single Langstroth broodchamber is ample for a good queen in our conditions and the use of the excluder gives the maximum crop. We have tested all the combinations of double broodchambers,1+3/4 and 1+1/2. The use of an excluder during some periods of the year appears to cause more upset than is wished for and doesn't allow the broodnest to become stable.
