I keep trying to think of better methods for my locality, what with huge
amounts of nectar available from now till about April, then afterwards
often very dry. Right now is when I need strong hives, and this year I've
combined hives in three apiaries (late November) to see if it will help.
Perhaps this in conjuction with what you and Murray describe (swarms
happen very early in the year here) I'll be able to significanly boost my
production.
