Having feed and nearly finalised colony winter preparations, I find that
I have some colonies that have not taken up sufficient feed to "ensure"
winter survival. These colonies produced well over the last season.
Presuming absence of disease or any other debilitating condition
resulting in a lack of syrup storage, what methods are there for colony
combining.
I have used several techniques in the passed - but due to climatic
conditions, am not sure if simple "one brood box on top the other" is
applicable.
I do not wish to enter the brood chamber. Therefore will be unable to
seek out one queen and dispatch, leaving the other heading the joined unit.
But at the same time am rather reluctant just to leave the two to fight
it out - that is unless advice forth coming suggests otherwise.
I am talking about 10 colonies here - from different apiaries!
Thanks for any comments,
Peter
