Hi Mats & all
The bees do not 'need' a landing (or alighting) board, but they can be of
good diagnostic help to the beekeeper...
A few moments observation can tell a great deal about what is going on
inside the hive.
Fixed alighting boards are a nuisance when moving hives, but I use some that
can be pushed into the entrance slot (I only use them to reduce the entrance
size, or as a marker, if I shift the entrance further up the stack) I do not
use them on every hive.
