I live in upstate NY, our winters are as bad as Canadian, so I was wondering

I use black roofing felt (tarpaper) that you buy at a hardware store. I've
always felt that the only benefit of wrapping using the black is that on
cold sunny days the black would absorb some of the heat and give the bees a
slight chance to move about. I use a staple gun to attach it ( you don't
need many). I also try to shelter the bees from the wind so I use the forest
and a hill to my advantage, prior to that I built a fence for a wind break
I put hardware mesh along the entrance to keep out the mice and give good
ventilation so the condensation that the bees generate can escape.
