When I got back from my bike ride
it was raining/sprinling.
The top of the hive had a shallow layer or water
and numerous damp fallen maple buds.
Also three bees lying on their backs.
One was still moving her legs
so I tried to offer her a lift with a twig,
but by the time I found a little twig
she was barely moving.
I used the twig to gently push her over the
edge of the hive top so she landed
on the "front porch" of the hive
where a dozen or so bees were hanging out
(still down at the end of the hive
where the opening was before I removed
the entrance reducer last a week ago
when I added the second hive body
- five weeks after installing the
package & queen.)
Is there anything that can be done
for a rain soaked bee (or one that's fallen
into the feeder tank & been fished out with
a spoon)?
I don't like to stand by while an
animal suffers.
