Pierre MacKay asked whether hornets dance like honey bees.
No, no vespid wasps (commonly called hornets and yellowjackets, of
which there are about 50 species world-wide) are known to dance. However
it is possible that foragers may set out to find the source of the aroma
of a food brought to a nest. Also it has been shown that workers of some
common yellowjacket species are attracted by the sight of other workers
feeding at a food source.
Regards,
Barry Donovan,
New Zealand.
