I think this is one of the reasons why ethical beekeepers view store-shelf honey with suspicion. It's sad. Honey should only be pure and plant nectar-derived only.
In a couple of former communist countries, there used to be - thankfully ! - a short-lived practice of selling a product labelled 'industrial honey' extracted from hives fed sugar syrup. There were very few takers for the stuff and the product disappeared... At least, they were honest about what they put on the label! ;-)
