There question is also discussed in these BEE-L archives fairly
extensively, so most of us old guys haven't said much.
Although some hives and some years are harder on drones than others,
good beekeepers with well-fed, mature hives will usually have some
drones all winter.
The next question to the master beekeepers out there is this:
Are those drones any good for mating queens by the time spring comes
around?
