The wing sounds could not be heard by human ears in the *opinion* of
Michelsen.

Ps I have watched many many a waggle dance over the years and have never
heard a sound. I will however try to listen closer. One hardly opens a hive
in spring and summer without observing the waggle dance.
I am taking a doctors stethoscope with me when I go to the bees in about an
hour.
I will also listen for workers piping. Never heard a worker piping but
slightly over 40 years among the bees might not be enough time. In my
opinion most queen piping is done when queens are removed from the hive or
caged.
