Who knows the answer to this?
Any beekeeper who introduces lots of queens will sometimes see this: you
introduce a queen by leaving the candy uncovered -- with or without a nail
hole thru the candy -- and return a week or two afterwards. You find the
candy all gone, the hole wide open, but the queen still in the cage,
running around and around. Sometimes another bee, or bees, will be in
there too.
Obviously she is free to go, but why is she in the cage?
Has she left and returned?
Is it only by chance that we see her there on a brief visit back to her old
home?
Or is she just to stupid to leave?
