Genetic research in honey bees is the subject of a report in yesterday's
New York Times (5-7-02, Science Times) that cites an article by Dr. Gene
Robinson in the April 26 issue of Science. It says that "just before the
transition (to forager), the activity of a gene aptly named the foraging
gene increases sharply in parts of the bee brain that absorb and interpret
visual and spatial information. The article is at
