Johann Dzierzon was a Polish - German beekeeper who made a hive which opened
at the back into which bars were suspended on which the bees built their
comb. I would imagine this to be a rear opening top bar hive. I don't
believe he understood the concept of bee space and the hive was difficult to
operate. The hive was later improved by Baron von Berlepsch who constructed
frames for the comb.
