Hello Ron,
I wish i had a answer for you but i don't! Twice i have stared at a
warehouse full of dead out hives. Both times after much thought i rolled
up my sleeves and got back on my feet. Many friends have quit and sold
out. Its getting harder to find young people wanting to be
beekeepers.
Many beekeepers in northern states not wanting to use choumaphos are
depopulating their hives, storing the equipment over the winter and
starting with varroa free packages in the spring. They are not using any
treatments at all. Many advantages but not a popular concept with
hobbiests. Would a slow death over the winter from varroa and pms be
better?
Good luck with your decision! Beekeeeping needs you!
