While I have not tried screen bottoms, I have had hives propolise the entire
slit between the lower hive and the floor closed.  By that I mean the opening we
had intended as an entrance.  This happened in the fall with a number of hives
when we wintered with open entrances.  The vast majority of hives did not do
this, however.
