Dear Anna, etc.:

I know Dr. Karp, author of "the Happiest Baby on the Block". We had him
signing his book at a recent Conference. As I am in charge of the Bookstore
for the Conference, I talked with him quite a bit and was able to take a
look at both his book and video. Both are very interesting. He looks at his
book/video/"5 Ss" as the gentle, attached-parent answer to the Baby
Whisperer, Ezzo, et al. If I remember right, he has been in practice with
both Dr. Gordon and Dr. Fleiss, here in southern California. Also, the "5
Ss" are: swaddling, shushing, side (or stomach), swaying, and (of course!)
suckling. His experience shows that this is a great way to deal with crying
infants up to a few months old (6, I think). While I haven't read every word
of the book, I would feel very comfortable recommending it to new parents.
(BTW, the book is currently under review for LLLI approval for use in Group
Libraries.)

He's a lone voice in the darkness, and I appreciate his light.
