Andrea,
About your baby/mom with blood in the stools:

These are the thoughts I have:

I have to wonder about the credablity of anyone who would suggest an
excitotoxin to an infant with neurological damage. I also wonder what
the mother's background in nutrition might be if she was willing to do
this.
I would be far less afraid of bloody stools than AIM and Splenda!!

A baby who has suffered a stroke needs bodywork, such as CST to
optimize neurological potential as well as structural function
(structure including organ function) as well as the baby's ability to
achieve a parasympathetic state--digestion does not happen in a
sympathetic state.

In my experience, many GI docs use an ineffective elimination diet, not
recognizing the risk of IgG allergens in gut health.

In spite of the mother's background, I would explore her own gut
health. If she has a leaky gut, her baby is at risk until she begins
her own healing.

The mother does not need a script to take digestive enzymes!! Anything
she would take by prescription is probably less effective than what she
would buy at a health food store or get from a holsitic practitioner. I
wouold suggest Houston or Enzymedica. And I would suggest she use a
probiotic.

I hope Jen Stevens will also respond on this--she is a great resouce!!
