Dr. Newman has a point - we are often too thin-skinned - in fact, I even
took a course on "How to be more thick-skinned" because I recognize it as
a problem. I WOULD have "run in the bedroom" when others disagreed with
me. Now I'm learning to stay, listen, and then decide for myself whether I
want to change my mind (horrors - I was "wrong???") or stick to my point of
view and say "it works my way for me, your way for you" - and maybe I'll
get you to change your mind after a while...

Right now we have a very supportive doctor - in most ways - but he insists
on handing out a list of foods breastfeeding moms cannot eat. The list is
extensive and depressing for most first-time moms. We have agreed to
disagree, and I have noticed the list is getting shorter and is now being
given to moms after babies show some signs of irritability instead of to
all moms.

PS - WAY back I had a very strong letter from an MD who told me I was not
to send his patients to have their frenulums cut. You all helped me to
write him and not "hide in my bedroom". He still disagrees with me -
strongly - but he sends me his patients. And I tell them what I see and
explain he disagrees with me and they should decide what they want to do.
I also give them the name of the maxilo-oral physician who does the
diagnosis and treatment (not a competing pediatrician). So - I guess we
agree to disagree, but the moms are getting the help they need...
