That is very strange. Sensation to the lower gum is from the mandibular 
branch of the trigeminal nerve and tongue lateralization is controlled 
by the hypoglossal nerve. The trigeminal nerve fibers in the principal 
(main) sensory nucleus cross to the contralateral side of the brain (for 
all fibers EXCEPT the ones that provide sensation inside the mouth. 
Perhaps in this baby they all crossed?
