My name is Karen Palmer and I am joining lactnet today. I am a New Zealand independant midwife, a previous lactation consultant and a resitting canidate this year. I am also mother to 4 children, all of whom have been breastfed. I am passionate about; breastfeeding, the politics of breastfeeding and supporting those wishing to breastfeed their babies. In my midwifery practice over the past 2 years, 100% of my clients have breastfed their babies at birth . About 94 % of those were still breastfeeding at 6 weeks of age. This may be a low number (about 100) but it gives me great joy to see this happen.

My aim is to increase my knowledge base as much as possible and extend lactation skills out into the community where it is needed most.

I am looking forward to being part of lactnet.
