This saddens me and it angers me.  There is research out there that shows
that human milk inhibits candida albicans.  The human milk component patents
I have seen have mentioned this fact.  But there is a most recent research
paper that has a press release (May 2001) that states, "...human milk
contributes to host resistance against candidiasis in the neonatal and infant
oral cavity by reducing formation of invasive hyphal forms." and also says
that "human milk reduces the virulence of C. albicans by preventing
germination."  And goes on to say, "These findings are widely significant to
newborns and infants, including not only those who are healthy but also those
who are immunocompromised." They mention that they are the first to present
such findings but I do believe that there is other research that supports
this (from looking at the patents).  I would think it to be extremely helpful
to copy this information from the following website (they even have the
researcher's e-mail address) and present it to the mother (who should present
this to the neonatalogist who is in charge of her infant's health).
