I too have heard that too much water in the diet could lower milk supply but
never understood the mechanism so I appreciated the comments about ADH. I
think it was Arly who discussed whether a gallon of water a day was too
much. She was right on track in my opinion to point out that other beverages
must be considered a source of water. I would add though that you must also
include foods as a source of water in the diet. Soups, fruits, and
vegetables are all very high in water and would count towards the body's
daily requirement for fluid. So, drinking a gallon of water plus drinking
other beverages plus the water in foods eaten could add up to a lot of
water...enough to cause this apparent drop in milk supply.
