Niki, perhaps this mother would find it helpful to share a copy of the chapter on premature babies in THE BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK with her neonatologist. References will be in this book. You should have the most current copy in your WIC office. I believe they are standard for Texas WICs. Good luck to this mom.  When baby comes home, a few feedings with test weighing will help her assess intake at breast. Lots of premies need supplementation for a while until they get closer to the original due date and test weighing gives us a good indication of baby's ability.
