<< I felt some concern during the meeting that there seemed to be, in
general, a move to making the LC (and the lesser credential) an "add-on"
to another professional designation - nurse, dietician, physician -
rather than an independent, stand-alone profession. >>

That horrifies me. And uh...were any of them planning on asking *us*
how we feel about that idea? The arrogance of this defies description.

I vote that the IBCLC credential be an "add-on" to teacher
certification. Clearly, this is a teaching profession; rotten teachers
make for rotten IBCLCs. There --- done. Problem solved. All of you
must now go get teaching degrees, like me.

Oh. I forgot. I don't get a vote. Never mind.

That greatly bothers me as well. What in heaven's name happened to this
profession? Did I fall asleep and not notice the change while I was
busy working? This all seems to come out of left field to me, but I'll
grant that I've been very busy with work and my personal life this past
couple of years.

Did anyone else see all this coming? Because I continue to be floored
by it.

<< I think the idea is that people in these positions and roles would
actually prefer a more restrictive scope of practice.>>

Well bully for them. Meanwhile, the rest of us would like to be able to
do our jobs, thank you very much. I had a client last week whose child
just had his first birthday. We've had many a conversation and more
than one consultation this past year. It feels good to see her get to
this point still nursing. She told me that a doctor (among others such
as family/friends) recently told her that now it's time to wean - this
is just a vice for her son now; her milk is no longer useful.

I'm supposed to agree with that? The woman does not want to wean.
Neither does her one year old, of course.

You can all guess what I told her....
