Oxytocin is the same hormone that is released during sex and orgasm,
birthing and breastfeeding. In one article Dr. Newton talks about how
oxytocin is involved in these 3 interpersonal acts and that caretaking is
triggered by each of these acts. Dr. Niles Newton has written a lot on
this subject. Prolactin works on receptors in the breast to produce milk.
It also seems to have a calming effect on mom and baby (it's in breast milk
too). I thought that I remembered that prolactin was the hormone given to
experimental male animals and made them act motherly. Anyone else remember
that study? Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
