Dear Sarah,
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, Sixth Edition, pages 344-349,
discusses this very issue. I looked this information up just last week for a
mom who is nursing her 4 month old in the day care Nursery Room, before she
goes to work and after work, before she goes home, in order to attempt to
kill the germs in the immediate environment. Mom was getting a hard time
from the staff because some fathers were complaining that she was "exposing"
herself. The Staff asked her to nurse in another room, but she refused,
telling them that she was attempting to kill the germs in *that* room. They
looked at her like she was from another planet. Armed with info, she went to
the Director of the day care and not a word has been said about her
continuing to nurse in that environment. Yes!!!!!
