Since I was there in the 80's, I ordered the same shields he used.  It is indeed the same as what Medela has now.  They were made by "Cannon".  I also had the original Haberman feeder. It was a wonderful tool then and still is today.

Yes, the studies on milk transfer with nipple shields are old. The Woolridge study compared an old mexican hat, thick rubber one with a new thinner shield, unclear if as thin as the current silicone shields. The other 2 studies were done with a thin silicone shield.
