I felt compelled to jump in with my $.02 here. My understanding about
breastfed babies was that they could be expected to gain weight faster in
the earlier months than their artificially fed counterparts,typically
plateauing before a year and thereafter slowing their weight gain
considerably, in contrast to the formula fed babies who typically might be
expected to gain steadily more weight with the passage of time. This
certainly applies to my own boys, who though different in their nursing
styles and even body types, definitely had in common really rapid weight
gain in the first few months of their lives (i.e. 1 lb./week for at least
the first two months!- Maybe in hindsight I had oversupply?) Anyway, the
gist of the articles was that it was the rapid early weight gain of the
formula fed infants that seemed to be operative.

Any of you others have the same thoughts?
