I am asking for help on an interesting mom and baby: I received call from a
mom of a 4 month old boy. Her 4th child. States baby has been "crying for
all of his 4 months."
At 2 months noticed blood in stools and "itchy acting esp. his face." She
stopped all milk products from her diet. Bloody stools disappeared, but
fussiness continued. Now 2 months later, mom still looking for cause. Last
week her pediatrician suggested no breastmilk and trying "allergy free
formula." Mom reluctant, but desperate.
States one week off breastmilk and baby a "different" baby. No more
itchiness, sleeping more restful, no fussiness. But Mom unhappy with no
breastfeeding. She is pumping to keep up supply. Mom states she has
history of allergy to dust, etc.
What else should we look for as a problem?
Thank you, Loretta Haycook, RN, IBCLC
