I enjoyed reading your post--very interesting to see how others have become
involved in breastfeeding support & promotion. On occassion "hospital
nurses/lactation consultants" get lumped together & labelled. That is where I
want to say -- wait -- we're learning --we're trying, slowly but surely. Some
of us came up the hard way. I knew little about breastfeeding 20 yrs ago &
much of what I knew was incorrect. Therefore, I had to relearn the correct
information. I know this holds true for lots of "older nurses" out there.
Now, I want to know why these younger nurses don't have better information
today. One of my current goals is to pass along positive information about
breastfeeding to everyone -- healthcare professionals, students, new moms &
dads, grandparents, aunts & uncles, children, friends -- it also takes a
village to breastfeed a child. Well, it's much easier if everyone is
supportive.
