I am dashing off, so don't have time to look up the details (hopefully
another local ILCA member will fill them in) -- A Kansas City area
neonatalogist is currently studying the effects of EFA supplements (those
cultured in algae my Martek) for mom on babies in the NICU. He has worked
in several countries and in several areas in the US and feels that mothers
in the midwest are seriously deficient in this area and that it does play a
role in the health of the infant -- particularly the early ones he is
looking at.

On a personal note -- the addition of fish oil to my diet has allowed me to
nurse through pregnancy and tandem nurse much more comfortably than I had
thought possible. Before starting them I experienced extreme irritation
while nursing the older child.
