Recently a lot of the tongue-tied babies that I have worked with
have had difficulty getting breastfeeding right even after the frenotomy.
Moms seem to get frustrated, thinking the frenotomy is a magic bullet and
wonder why baby still has trouble.

As has been said, by Linda and Debbie, part of the issue is that the
frenotomy may free up the tongue movement, but since it has been limited it will be
weak or uncoordinated in its new range of motion. The other piece which
Debbie mentioned, I will flip around: instead of overprotrusion of the upper jaw,
the baby may have underdevelopment/recessed jaw of the lower jaw. According
to Wolf's Law, the bones will form a certain way based on muscle pull effects,
and this baby's tongue muscle had not been able to exert normal pressures,
and still may not be able to for a while. The sooner after birth the clipping
is done, usually means a faster move to more normal motion and power, but the
jaw structure will respond even more slowly than the tongue muscle. Cathy G,
 jump in here, if needed.
